Help Seeking and Honesty
Honesty will set you free!
In conversations with your treating practitioners I would recommend that you try to be completely honest and open about what difficulties you are facing. Trust me when I say they will have heard it all before and that you are probably not the first to struggle with the issue you are having.
Without honesty it makes it very hard for a professional to treat you to the best of their ability because they are missing part of the story.
Secondly, make sure to try to seek help early. If you seek help early for your mental health crisis or concern, there is often a lot more that can be done by you and your practitioner. This is a good general rule for throughout your treatment.
Note: Professional Requirements
There are a few professions where people are often worried that they will be reported to a regulatory body for example doctors and AHPRA. These are genuine concerns but I would recommend that the best way to manage this is to:
proactively seek help and be able to demonstrate this such as with a list of professionals, including a psychiatrist, from whom treatment is being provided
Do not turn to increasing amounts of drugs and alcohol to self medicate, seek help early
Consider seeking help from your local health service for doctors. E.g. Victorian doctors health program in Victoria.
Also experienced professionals will often be better able to manage the situation and tell you what is required.
